Larson Funeral Home of Ortonville announces the death of Ailys Henningson, age 93, of Ortonville. Ailys Henningson passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Northridge Residence in Ortonville, MN.
Funeral services will be 1 P.M. Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the Congregational UCC Church in Ortonville with Rev. Karen Evenson officiating. Burial will be in the Mound Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ailys Louise Trebil was born August 6, 1917 At Ortonville, MN, daughter of Alfred and Harriet (Gardner) Trebil. She grew up in Clinton, MN and graduated from Clinton High School in 1935. Ailys attended college at St. Cloud State College and the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, graduating from the University of Minnesota in 1943. She taught rural school at Big Stone Country District 27 and also taught at Becker, Minnesota, Saulte Ste Marie, Michigan, Clinton, MN and Lawrenceville, ILL. Ailys was a teacher and elementary principal at Graceville, MN for 16 years.
Ailys married Berton E. Henningson on July 31, 1942 at Florence, SC. They had four children: Chris, Berton, Jr. (Randy), Janelle and Jim. They moved to the Graceville farm in 1949 and lived there until 1972 when they moved to Ortonville to a lake home on Big Stone Lake.
Ailys participated in many activities including Girl Scout Leader, President of Central Minnesota Methodist Youth Association, Sunday school teacher and a 4-H leader. Ailys belonged to the Big Stone County Extension Club, Minnesota Education Association, Minnesota Elementary Principals Association, National Elementary Principals Association, and Western Minnesota Reading Association. She served as Chairman of the Women's Fellowship at Ortonville Congregational United Church of Christ and was a Board member of the Minnesota Church Women United and the Minnesota Homelands Missions. She chaired the 100th anniversary of the Ortonville Congregational UCC and also chaired the 100th anniversary of Clinton all-school reunion. She was a member of the Ortonville Library board and Ortonville AIDS awareness. She served as a speaker for SW Minnesota AIDS awareness and was also a hospice volunteer.
Ailys loved reading, flower gardening and all kinds of needle work and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Other hobbies included scrapbooks, handcrafts and travel.
Ailys was preceded in death by her parents, her son Berton, Jr., her husband, Berton, Sr., brothers Daniel, Cecil, Arnold, Leonard, Edgar Trebil and sisters Eva Trebil, Alice Twogood, and Anna Wilson.
She is survived by two sons, Chris (Audrey) Henningson of Roseville, MN, Jim (Bonnie) Henningson of Sioux Falls, SD and one daughter, Janelle (Michael) Adams of Portland, OR; 3 grandchildren, Troy (Jamie) Henningson, Terri (Carey) Prigge and Daniel (Tracy) Henningson; 7 great grandchildren, Samuel, Emily, Annie and Sawyer Prigge, Haley and Brock Henningson and Abby Henningson. Ailys is also survived by one sister, Inez (Fred) Strombom, 1 brother John (Marian) Trebil and a sister-in-law Dorothy Schrey and many nieces and nephews.rtonville.
