Agnes VanDervoort

Memorial services for Mrs. Agnes O. VanDervoort, age 87, of Milbank, will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2007, at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank. The Reverend Colleen Natalie-Lees will officiate. Agnes died on August 20, 2007, at the Milbank Area Hospital/Avera Health. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. Burial of her cremated remains will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.
Agnes was born on December 12, 1919, in Twin Brooks Township, Grant County, SD, the daughter of John and Cornelia (Van Asch) DeVaal. She attended grade school in Twin Brooks and Melrose #7 country school. Agnes graduated from Milbank High School.
She was united in marriage to Marvin P. VanDervoort on December 31, 1941, in the EUB Parsonage in Watertown, SD. Agnes worked in an electronics defense plant in Belmont, CA, while her husband served his country during WW II. The couple returned to Milbank in 1945. In 1951 they built and operated Van's Motel (now the Manor Motel) in Milbank until 1968 when they sold to Earl Bohlen and Ken Keller. Her husband Marv died on November 16, 2000 and continued to live at Terrace Garden Apts. and later at Park Place in Milbank.
Survivors include her daughter Caroljean Guilmette and husband John, Commerce City, CO; four grandchildren: Celeste Bennett, Lakewood, CO; Adrian and Marcus Panek, Thornton, CO; and Skyler Panek, Commerce City, CO; two sisters, Marie Tuchscherer, Milbank, and May Olson, Cupertino, CA; one brother, Stanley DeVaal, and wife Muriel, Rochester, MN; two sisters-in-law, Mary DeVaal, Milbank, and Cora DeVaal, Ortonville, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, husband Marv, two sisters, Virginia Regallo and Della Schaffer and four brothers, Cornelius, Peter, Milton, and Henry DeVaal preceded her in death.
