Julia Ann (Donaldson) Stuckey was born on July 27, 1942, in Vinita, OK. She was the daughter of James and Beulah (Harrell) Donaldson. The family lived in Oklahoma until Julia was two years old. They moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where Julia grew up. She attended schools in Sioux Falls, including Washington High School. She was united in marriage with LeRoy Stuckey on November 6, 1958, in Humboldt, SD. They were blessed with four children: Randy, Debra, Shelley, and Crystal.
In 1972, Julia and LeRoy purchased Bay View Resort on Big Stone Lake. Together, they operated the resort. They worked hard and put in long days, but made friendships that have lasted a lifetime. Their children and grandchildren spent almost every weekend at the resort. They helped with everything including taking docks in and out and cleaning cabins. When the work was finished, Julia loved to play cards and games with the kids….and she almost always won! They were always treated with Julia’s cooking and baking. She adored family get togethers and reunions. She was selfless and took care of everyone! She loved to fish whenever she was able.
LeRoy passed away in 1998. Julia and her daughter, Shelley, operated the resort a few years before Julia sold it and retired. For the past few years she has lived at Fairway View Neighborhood in Ortonville. She was a faithful member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank.
Julia is survived by her children: Randy (Lori) Stuckey of Milbank, SD; Shelley (Craig) Welberg of Big Stone City, SD; and Crystal (Nathan) Misterek of Sioux Falls, SD; son-in-law, Jeff Spanton of Milbank, SD; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and two more on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents: James and Beulah; husband, LeRoy; daughter, Debra; and eight siblings.
