Iona Hartsoch

Iona Hartsoch, age 90, formerly of the Tioga area, most recently of Millbank, SD, passed away Monday evening, October 8, 2018, at the Milbank Care and Rehab Center where she has resided for the past few months.

Her Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 13 at Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, South of Ray, North Dakota.  Rev. Jon Wellumson will officiate.  Interment in Beaver Creek Cemetery will follow the service.

Friends may call at Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home on Friday, October 12 from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM and for the hour preceding the service at the church on Saturday.

Iona (Vossler) Hartsoch was born April 16, 1928 to Henry and Karolina Vossler of Wishek, ND.

She graduated from high school as Valedictorian of her class on May 26, 1946. Upon her high school graduation, she attended North Dakota State University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in home economics on June 5, 1950.

On June 24, 1951 she was united in marriage to Arvey James Hartsoch of Rural Tioga, ND. During her life on the farm she also worked as a school teacher at Medina, ND, Tioga High School and the Ray High School. She was very involved in the Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, The Ladies Aid, Hofflund Township Board, and a 4H leader.

Iona enjoyed her grandchildren’s events, family gatherings, and playing cards with friends, gardening, flowers, quilting, sewing, and baking for church bazaars.

Surviving Iona are her daughter in-law, Marcia Hartsoch of Rural Tioga and her children, Renae (James) Ramsey,  Amy (Kyle) Bergern , Heidi (Jarrod) Vigness and Nancy (Gary) Conlee; son, Paul (Shelly) Hartsoch of Marvin, SD and their children, Scott and Rechelle (Michael) Penticoff; son, Tim (Joyce) Hartsoch of Milbank, SD and their children, Tawnya (Christian) Reimche and Tracy (Douglas) Simms; daughter, Mary (Arlyn) Thorson of Farmington, NM and their children, Stacey Edgar, Heather (Kevin) Peterson, and Levi (RhoDonna) Thorson; sisters-in-law, Ara Hartsoch and Karen Vossler; brother-in-law, Wayne Vance; 34 great-grandchildren,  Emily, Abby, Zachery, Sierra, Shaylyn, James, Makayla, Jasmin, William, Preston, Dominic, Michael, Mackenzie, Landon, Gavin,Tanner, Charleigh, Jordon, Jacob, Josish, Olivia, Elijaha, Amber,Brooke, Emily, Christopher,Katelyn, Keeghan, Kail, Joel, Nolan, Jaivan, Kaysa, and Annika; 5 great-great-grandchildren, Mariah, Marianna, Averyn, Adelyn, and Ryker.

Preceding Iona in death were her parents; husband, Arvey Hartsoch; son, Craig Hartsoch; granddaughter, Laurie Hartsoch; brother, Leo Vossler; sister, Viola Judd; brother-in-law, Earl Hartsoch; sister-in-law, Marie Vance; and infant sisters and brothers.
