Duane Speidel

Duane Speidel, age 63, of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly of Milbank, died on February 1, at his home in Sioux Falls, after battling cancer for several months.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 7, at Central United Methodist Church in Milbank. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 6, at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank, and continue from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the church. Burial will be at the Milbank City Cemetery.

Duane Alan Speidel was born on August 28, 1958, in Milbank, SD, to Leonard and Doris (Porter) Speidel. He grew up on the family farm north of Milbank and attended school in Milbank. After graduation from Milbank High School, Duane enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged from the Army after three years, having served in the United States and in Germany.  He lived in Rapid City, SD, for a few years, but resided in Sioux Falls for most of his life.

Duane worked a variety of jobs related to construction and excavation. He most recently was employed at Midwest Excavating in Sioux Falls, where he operated construction equipment for excavating and landscaping.

In his spare time, Duane enjoyed flying hobby radio control planes, golfing, bicycling and motorcycling.

Duane Speidel is survived by his brothers: Charles (Pam) Speidel of Tea, SD; and Roger Speidel of Collinsville, IL; nieces: Kimberly Lee of Ortonville, MN; and Michelle Speidel of Harrisburg, SD; and nephew, Chris Speidel of Milbank, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Leonard and Doris; brother, Jim Speidel; and sister-in-law, Debra (Adams) Speidel.
